Marriage Policy
We believe that God, who created all things (Genesis 1:1, Romans 11:36, Colossians 1:16), created mankind to know, love, honor, and glorify Himself (1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Peter 4:11, Revelation 15:4). We also believe that the institution of marriage was established by God to be an exclusive union between one man and one woman as it was in the beginning (Genesis 2:18-24, Matthew 19:4-6).
We further believe that sexual intimacy is a gift from God to be enjoyed only within the bounds of a one man-one woman marriage and that such a relationship honors Him. Any and all other sexual activity strays from God’s original intent, is immoral and offensive to God, and dishonors Him.
The Church, the Body of Christ, exists to share God’s love, mercy, and grace with the rest of the world, teaching His Word and serving as a role model of joyful obedience (Matthew 28:19-20, Ephesians 3:10-12, 1 Peter 3:15). It is important that all members of the Church strive to fulfill that God-honoring role.
It is imperative; therefore, that all persons employed by the Church and/or serving in voluntary roles of leadership, teaching, or childcare agree to and abide by these stated beliefs regarding marriage and sexuality.
The elders of Christian Church of Midland reserve the right to ask anyone serving in any capacity to step down if they are in violation of these convictions. Furthermore, the ministers of this church may not participate in any way in any marriage or commitment ceremony that violates these convictions, nor may our facilities be used for such.
Finally, we believe that God loves all mankind, offering reconciliation and redemption to all who confess and turn away from their sin, seeking mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:1-6, 2 Peter 3:9). All followers of Christ should treat all people with love, compassion, kindness, and respect. All statements and policies contained herein are made in that spirit and a desire to preserve the integrity and function of the Church, with no animus toward or desire to harass any person or persons as such would not be in accord with the Word of God and the example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
